Before assuming the gasket itself has failed, it's worth ruling out a couple of simpler explanations that produce the exact same symptom without any actual part failure being involved. Overloading the dishwasher, or loading unusually tall items in a way that props against or interferes with the door, can prevent the door from sealing fully flush against the gasket even when the gasket itself is in perfectly good condition. Running an empty test cycle with nothing loaded inside is a useful way to rule this out — if the leak disappears with an empty load, loading pattern rather than gasket condition is likely the actual cause, and simply adjusting how items are arranged going forward resolves the issue at no cost.
One specific offender: a large tray, baking sheet or cutting board in the lower rack's front row. It does not need to touch the door to cause this. It only needs to deflect the spray forwards, straight at the seal, at a volume the gasket was never meant to hold back.
Detergent choice and quantity is another surprisingly common cause worth checking. Using regular dish soap by mistake instead of dishwasher-specific detergent — something that happens more often than you'd expect, especially in households where multiple people load and start the dishwasher — produces vastly excessive suds compared to what the machine is designed to handle. That excess foam can build up enough internal pressure and volume to force water and suds out around the door seal even on a completely healthy gasket, mimicking a genuine leak.
The tell is foam. If what appears at the door is white and airy rather than clear water, this is your answer and the gasket is fine. To clear it, run a rinse cycle with no detergent — sometimes two.
If you've ruled out loading issues and confirmed the correct detergent is being used, but a visual inspection still shows the gasket looking intact without any obvious gaps or damage, the remaining possibility is that the door isn't latching with quite enough mechanical force to fully compress the seal, even though it appears to close and lock normally. This points toward the latch mechanism itself needing adjustment or, in some cases, replacement — a repair that's worth having a technician assess directly, since determining whether the issue is latch tension versus gasket condition benefits from hands-on inspection rather than guesswork from a distance.
